Planning & Preparations
Session: 2
Have a list of key phone numbers that family members will carry with them in case of separation: It is important to have a way to communicate with your love ones in the event you get separated.  Write down your Name, date of birth, your home address, spouse, children names, and emergency contact numbers.  Also write down personal information like your social security or driver’s license number, and even a pass port if you have one. This will be helpful to identify you in case you are injured, and not capable of speaking.  Keep your house Insurance card or policy with you as well, and your medical insurance card.  Place these items in a Ziploc sandwich bag.

Important:
As for infants/ toddlers they should be tagged as well with all the same information.  Place the paper with emergency contact information inside of a well sealed Ziploc bag and attach the Ziploc bag to the inside of your infants or toddlers clothing with a safety pin.  During Katrina many parents had to send their children away with rescuers, and it became difficult too identify the infants/toddlers later during recovery/ identification process.  They can't speak for themselves, and it makes the process of finding the parents more difficult.
Make sure to call love ones or friends who live outside of the WARNING area and report to them what you are doing to keep in contact with family.  And if you are separated call your outside contact and let them know of your well-being.  This will keep those family members you were separated from at ease to know you are all right.

Find a dry & secure place to store your valuables:
Remember! Tupperware and Ziploc bags can be used to keep documents, insurance paperwork and other small valuables dry.  Find a safe place for valuables today, make this part of your plan of action!
They should have doctors name, telephone number, and medical history like any allergies or defects in case they need to be treated.
A copy of their medical insurance card.
The name of the child, social security number, the name of the parents.
Home address, cell phone numbers or home number.
Phone number, and address of family members that live outside of the warning area if possible.

Note: Make sure that the numbers are land line telephone numbers, and not just cell phone numbers.  Cell phone communication can become disrupted by the storm, and it maybe difficult to get through because of so many people trying to call their love ones.  Oh! Let’s not forget if there is no power, you will have no way to charge your cell phones unless you have a back up generator or a car charger.
Have an expert review the integrity of the inside and outside of your roof: If you haven't had a contractor check your roof lately, then maybe you should think about doing it soon! Most of the serious damage to homes during hurricanes were mainly due to poor roof tie downs, and rotting wood, plus poor construction...Check your roof structure today!

Do you have roof turbines?  If you do, make sure to remove them, and cover the hole with turbine covers.  Winds of 100 mph or higher will rip the turbine off the roof leaving a hole for water to pour into, causing severe damage, and flooding the inside of your home.

Have enough water jugs (7 Gal. per person) for at least two weeks:
