Be Hurricane ready

Should you lower the water level of your In-ground pools 6 inches? In reality the heavy rains accompanied by a hurricane will exceed your drop in six inches in no time. However, if you feel that it would help, then by all means do so. Remember DO NOT drain pool completely because when the water table in the ground around the pool begins to rise, your pool could pop out of the ground and cause serious damage to the pool it self.
Add Extra Chlorine to the pool: Pool water becomes contaminated after a storm with all the debris that falls inside. Extra chlorine will help keep mosquito and other insects from breeding in your pool water. Plus you can always use this water for flushing your toilet since water lines will be shut down or restricted.
Turn off Electricity to your pool: As soon as the storm rains arrive water could get into the circuitry and cause damage to the pool pump. So wrap the filter pump with waterproof covering (plastic) and tie it down securely.

Above ground pools: Keep the water in the over the ground pool at it's normal level. This will keep the pool frame structure from collapsing and becoming a dangerous flying projectile. Turn Electricity to pump off and remove the Filter pump if possible, and store it in a safe and secure place. If it cannot be removed, wrap it in waterproof covering and tie it securely.
